Desiccants

Desiccants are used to keep moisture away from sensitive materials. Silica gels are used as granules or in bags to keep food, clothes and electronics dry during transport and storage. The aim is to prevent high humidity and condensation and thus mold and rust. It is also used to specifically dry chemical substances in desiccators. Depending on the application, non-indicating or indicating blue or orange silica gels are used. Metals and electronic components can quickly become damaged over 40% relative humidity. Bags made of dry clay (Desi Pak, Clay Pack) are thus used for transport. For particularly sharp drying e.g. for solvents molecular sieves are used.
