Oxygen Free Storage / Packaging
Storage of oxygen-sensitive goods (food, rubber, plastics, fats ...)
The largest field of application for oxygen absorbers are foods. The oxygen absorbers ATCO FT are all approved for food ( except ATCO FTM 1000 which is not suitable for direct contact with food ). The varieties offered here are suitable for the storage of cereals, pastries and much more.
Rubber can only be preserved for a long time in an oxygen-poor atmosphere. However, some plastics and metals also benefit from low-oxygen storage.
Paper, wood and textiles normally don't profit from oxygen free storage. Their main factor of degradation is hydrolysis (decomposition by water). Control of humidity and low temperature will be the best way to preserve these items. Which humidity will be best depends on many factors.
In the case of photo and film materials, low-oxygen storage, hardly has got any positive effect. Very cool and dry storage the best conservation.
Storage of metals
Freshly excavated archaeological metal objects that must not dry out can be largely protected against corrosion with ATCO. The low-oxygen atmosphere also protects organic residues from aerobic microorganisms. Inside the oxygen-free container conditions will be similar to the conditions in the ground. Fresh metal surfaces can be kept shiny and solderable for years using the absorbers RP-A and RP-K.
Pest control
With an oxygen content of less than 0.3% and at a temperature of at least 20°C, all stages of common insect pests will be reliably killed within a few weeks. The objects to be treated are sealed along with the appropriate amount of oxygen absorber in a pouch or bubble made of oxygen barrier film. For larger volumes we recommend the oxygen scavenger ZerO2.
